Importing and exporting notes

In iNotepad, notes can be imported and exported using several different file formats. Preferred format is RTF (Rich Text Format) but HTML, Microsoft Word and Open Office formats are supported as well.

Here are ways to export notes to document files:

  • Select one or more notes in the Notes list and drag them to the Finder location desired.

The file format used for the created files is RTF by default and can be set in the general pane of the preferences window.

For plain text files an encoding is required. The UTF-8 encoding will be used by default and can be set in the general pane of the preferences window.

  • Select one or more notes in the Notes list and choose File > Export > Export Selected Notes… and in the Save panel that will appear choose the name and location for the file to be created.

The file format used for the created files can be set in the options pane of the Save panel.

For plain text files an encoding is required and can be set in the options pane of the Save panel.

  • Select one or more tags in the Tags list and drag them to the Finder location desired.

For each tag will be created a folder containing the notes associated with it.

The file format used for the created files can be set in the options pane of the Save panel.

For plain text files an encoding is required and can be set in the options pane of the Save panel.

Here are ways to import document files into notes:

  • Select one or more document files in the Finder and drop them onto the Notes list.

iNotepad will import all supported document files and assign them the currently selected tag.

  • Choose File > Import and in the Open panel that will appear select files to be imported.

iNotepad will import all supported document files and assign them the currently selected tag.

  • Select one or more document files in the Finder and drop them onto a tag in the Tags list.

iNotepad will import all supported document files and assign them the tag they are dropped on.

If the dragged item is a folder it can be also dropped onto the list background. In this case iNotepad will create a new tag with the name of the folder and import all contained supported document files into it.
